How do I find out more about clogging?

Check with a local square dance organization, dance studios, or look in the phone book under dance.  You can also check out the C.L.O.G.  They've got some good information and can point you to other information.

Where can I find clogging in my area?

If you hail from the Lone Star State, you can check out the Texas Clogging Council's Website and see if someone is listed for your area.  If you live outside of Texas, check out local dance studios.  Many times cloggers are also affiliated with your local Square Dance organization.

Who is The San Antonio Cloggers' Showcase?

The San Antonio Cloggers' Showcase is an IRS certified 501c(3) charitable organization formed to further the heritage that is clogging by "showcasing" various groups and styles from around the state and country.  In so doing we also strive to show our youth that activities such as clogging can be fun while combining all ages and walks of life in a fun, healthy activity.  We gladly accept any and all donations to further our cause.  With our IRS certification, your donations may be deductible.  Showcase recognizes all donations of $250 or more in our event program.

What is Clogging?

Clogging is an American folk dance that has its origins in the southern Appalachian mountains of the United States of America. While it has strong ties to the step dance of the British Isles brought to the region by white settlers, clogging is also influenced by the traditional dance of native Americans, and the solo "buck & wing" dance of American blacks.

Clogging is a misnomer, since in the U.S., it is not performed in clogs. Nevertheless, the name persists, although in Appalachia, this form of percussive dancing is often only known as buck dancing or flat footing or just plain "dancing."

In the United States, clogging takes two major forms: traditional Appalachian flatfoot dance and precision (or modern) clogging.

How can our Team become a performing part of Showcase?

The San Antonio Cloggers' Showcase selects member teams two ways.  First, we have a guest slot each year which is filled by a Team selected from those who exhibit at the annual Texas Clogging Rally.  As other slots come open, we first look to those who have written and expressed a desire to join Showcase.  On July 1st of each year, Showcase formalizes the program for the following year by insuring that all slots are filled with teams that have signed their commitment forms.  Any open slot in the "core group" is filled first by offering the slot to that year's guest.  If that year's guest is not able to attend, we then start discussions with those teams who have written the address below and expressed their willingness to do the requirements for Showcase as set forth in our Procedures and Commitment forms.
